    Allow guests to dress up in a costume related to their initials (or just first name if you want to narrow their choices)
    Ask guests to dress up in costumes related to your initials.
    Choose 1 or 2 letters that they have to find a related costume for - this can be randomly chosen.

To be honest, when you first send out your invitations, many of your guests will be very confused as to what you are asking. I would suggest that in the invitation you do give them a good explanation. If your guests are confused, they may not even attempt to dress up, or worse, not attend your party. Painted Lady - Technically the name of a butterfly (and also the term for a brazen female, probably derived from the biblical queen Jezabel) but in these days of easy access to face and body paint, an opportunity to show of your (or someone else's) creativity!

Panda bear - The endangered species native to central and south western China. It is easily recognised by its large, distinctive black patches around the eyes, over the ears, and across its round body.

Palm Tree - A beige tube for the trunk and green crepe for leaves plus coconuts. You might also be able to have a toy monkey in the branches!

Pantaloon - A character found in sixteenth centuryItalian/Venetian Commedia del Arte drama.. Basically a foolish clown who has given his name both to a 'loon' and a style of loose, baggy trousers.

Paris - The capital of France and also the name of the man who eloped with Helen of Troy and caused the Trojan War. You could also go as Paris Hilton, the well-known socialite. Use a skimpy dress and long blonde hair wig. A small toy dog in the handbag is another useful prop.

Parliamentarian - similar to cavalier but in sombre colours with plain collar and cuffs. Hair should be worn short with a 'Sugarloaf' style hat.

Parrot - Can be a standalone costume or teamed with a pirate companion, or mix the two e.g. 'Parrots of the Caribbean'

Parson - Similar to Vicar. Often shown with round brimmed hat and pince-nez glasses.

Patsy - Character from the 1990s TV comedy 'Absolutely Fabulous'. Played by Joanna Lumley. Beehive hairstyle and accessories indicating love of booze, fags and champagne.

Paul Revere - American Patriot who took part in the 'Boston Tea Party' protest and rode through the night to warn New Englanders of the movement of the English Troops. American Colonial outfit.

Pavarotti - Rotund Italian opera singer. Usually seen in black evening wear and a 'jolly wobbly' costume can sometimes be found at outlets.

Peasant - A skirt and blouse (sometimes with a mop cap and shawl) for females and trousers/breeches and shirts for males.
